Tuesday Talkback: What was your first job?
Hi Tumblr! It’s two days into the work week, which means it’s time for that oh-so-fun feature we call Tuesday Talkback. I ask a question, you answer — or not! It is, as always, up to you. This question comes from our Tumblr friend/follower Alex Weisler. (Thanks Alex!)
I’ll go first: My first job was in a corn maze, called “The Maize,” when I was 16. I applied to be a “corn cop,” one of the people who policed the maze and made sure no one got lost or unruly. Unfortunately, because of my unathletic and generally non-intimidating demeanor, I was assigned to make crafts with kids instead. You could not pay me to do that again — not even for more than minimum wage!
What about you?

Mowing my neighbor’s yards. $16 a week for 2 yards. The second house always gave me a popsicle and he and I would eat in silence in the sun.

Working at a one-screen movie theater that reopened in my hometown. Free admission, free popcorn, free pop, and all my friends worked there!

I worked at a dry cleaner for minimum wage when I was 16. I’ll never forget how excited I felt after getting my first “big” paycheck!
